Finding Jesus in the Orphanage
I first heard the Good News of Jesus Christ through the Assembly of God church in Cambodia in January 1994, while I was living in an orphanage supported by the Assembly of God. When I arrived there, everything felt new and unfamiliar. I saw people praying with their eyes closed, reading the Bible, and singing Christian songs every day. One song they often sang was “Alive, Alive, My Savior is Alive,” and I learned to sing along even though it was different from the songs I knew before.
On Sunday, January 30, 1994, I attended a worship service where Pastor Troy preached the Word of God and Pastor Than interpreted. That was the first time I clearly heard about Jesus. I was shocked because I realized Jesus was not a Khmer god, but a foreign God, and I felt like I had been tricked.
At the end of the service, I was invited to accept Jesus. Even though I did not fully understand, I prayed and gave my life to Him. After that day, I began to desire to know Jesus more. I studied the Bible, invited friends to church, shared the Good News, and later was baptized. Through the teaching and care of the Assembly of God church, I grew in faith.
Until today, I have never thought about leaving my faith. Even if I had to face death or stand alone as the only believer, I would still follow Jesus with joy. Jesus has become my strong foundation, and I have life because of His grace. Without Him, my life would have no meaning.
My desire is for others to believe in Jesus and grow in faith as I have. I am thankful for Cambodia Village Outreach, which shares the Good News, cares for believers, and helps make disciples. My passion is to teach God’s Word and share the Gospel so that God may be glorified.
A Bible verse that encourages me is:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
